Which dog are you interested in?

Foster Tales operates primarily online to match dogs with loving homes across California and beyond.
*
Our adoption process is thoughtful and education-focused, refined through placing over 350 dogs in the past two years. Every potential adopter receives counseling with a certified trainer before meeting their dog.
I understand.
You may notice an “out of town” banner on our Petfinder profiles.

This means the dog isn’t located in your area, but transport for a meet-and-greet and potential adoption is available for adopters who complete our process.
We’re based in California’s Central Valley, but adopters are NOT required to travel to our headquarters.
We offer free transport to Los Angeles for Southern California adopters and to Modesto for Northern California adopters.
A reasonable transport fee applies for other areas.
Which of the following applies to you?
I am in Northern California and would be interested in meeting in Modesto, California.
I am in Southern California and would be interested in meeting in Los Angeles, California.
I am in California but am interested in paying for other transport options.
I am out-of-state and ready to cover transport fees on top of the adoption fee.
Rescue is expensive. Foster Tales is not tax-subsidized and operates entirely on donations and adoption fees. As of 2024, we spend an average of $1,000 per dog rescued.

Our standard adoption fee is $625. While some may consider this high, it reflects the real investment we make in each dog—spay/neuter, vaccinations, treatment for common shelter illnesses, microchipping, and more.
These dogs are not “free,” and responsible pet ownership means being financially prepared—especially with rising veterinary costs. If the adoption fee feels out of reach, it may not be the right time to adopt.
I understand and am comfortable with the adoption fee, and I’m fully prepared to cover the ongoing costs of caring for a dog.
Tell us what makes you stand out as a potential adopter.

What makes your home, lifestyle, or approach to pet ownership uniquely suited for one of our dogs? We’re looking for adopters who are thoughtful, committed, and ready to offer a dog not just a home—but a truly great life. Why should we be excited about the idea of placing a dog with you?
